Nyora Raceway’s latest race meeting on March the 25th featured the crown jewel in the Ladies Standard Saloon season with the ‘Moe Recyclers’ supported Victorian Ladies Standard Saloon title the feature event along with the visiting Speedcars in a round of their Southern Series and the two big winners were Warragul woman Tracey Ingram and Speedcar top gun Travis ‘Squizzy’ Mills.
Ladies had come from all over Victoria for the state title with Portland, Bendigo, Ballarat, East and West Gippsland and even far as Corowa in New South Wales fielding a representative.
Six qualifying heat races were sorted out with Portland’s Hanna Domburg the only woman to win more than one heat race, picking up two wins. Last year’s champion Kellie Latham, Trish Dike, Ingram and Nicole Vaughan from Portland all winners and McDermott and Ingram were the only two drivers to finish in the top three in every race they started in to qualify.
Lining up for the final a full field of fast lady racers set about their annual title. Of course there was hard luck with breakdowns and crashes taking some of the racers out of the picture. Over the course of the race Ingram and McDermott had a great tussle, Latham and Dike and even further back in the field for position lots of action was going on.
When the chequer flag dropped to crown the new champ, Ingram had taken victory ahead of multiple times champion McDermott, defending champion Latham, Dike, Domburg, Vaughan, Sarah price, Priscilla Grech, Tegan Bullard, Allana Ardley, Vicky Maddock and Danielle Ardley listed finishers on the Stewards signed off lap sheet.
Warragul woman and Rosedale club member Ingram was understandably wrapt with her win. “Thank you to everybody involved from my supporters, my friends and my family. Neil and the kids have been wonderful. Dad and Mum (Garry & Gayle) we couldn’t do it without you both. Jack Brennan and Gordon Russell thank you also. Nyora what a beautiful track you gave us, well done to everybody involved. It makes all the hard work leading up very much worthwhile. Well done to my competitors for their results, see you again next year Ladies.”
Southern Speedcar Tour competition included the addition of Dan Biner and Jamie Hall from New South Wales as nominations and they mixed it up with the locals including Biner taking a win in round one of racing as well as Travis Mills.
Round two racing in the competitive class produced two new winners with Joe Lostich and Matt Papa first across the line.
Mills, Papa, Lostich, Paul Farrell a Nyora raised racer, Ash Booker and Biner made
up the top six to start the feature race.
The little bull ring with low and high line racing produced a great little feature with Mills picking up the win ahead of Farrell, Papa, Biner and Jack Day rounding out the top five.
Supporting the two main events were the Open Sedans and Junior Sedans with the Open Sedans victory going the way of Mick Evans in his V8 powered UC Torana two door. Evans was too strong for Rob Bickham who had a great run with Ballarat visitor Lucas Conder in third. Troy Glassborrow and Daniel Angus rounded out the top five. Earlier the top three won qualifying heat races.
Junior Standard Saloon racing finished with the Victorian Champion Adrian Lawrence picking up the win from Karsha-Rose Russell, Ambah Fythe and Riley Lawrence.
